Benefits Plans - Prescription Drug Plan: Mail order Service
Website for U-M Prescription Drug Plan members:
https://umich.novixus.com/
Mail service can be used for 90-day supplies of maintenance medications on which the patient is already stabilized. Maintenance medications are long-term prescriptions that are taken regularly, such as medication to control blood pressure or cholesterol.
Using the mail service pharmacy helps you reduce your annual out-of-pocket prescription drug costs. The mail service co-pay is only two months co-pay for a three-month supply, saving you one-third of the cost. In addition, use of the mail service helps the university control cost for next year’s benefit plans and helps to reduce future cost increases to members.
Prescription drug mail-order service is provided by NoviXus Pharmacy Services as an alternative to retail pharmacies. NoviXus, accessible on the Web at https://umich.novixus.com/, provides convenient, secure deliveries to your home or elsewhere within the United States. Supplies of up to 90 days at a time can be ordered through the mail-order service. This is particularly convenient for participants who take medications on an ongoing basis. Participants save a third of their out-of-pocket co-pay cost for a 90-day supply of medication at the mail-order pharmacy. There are a limited number of medications where a maximum of 34 days supply is allowed. Please see Coverage for more information on limits.
Most prescriptions are valid for up to one year from the date the physician writes them. This expiration date is generally listed on your prescription label. When a prescription expires each year you will need to obtain a new prescription from your physician. You can maximize your mail-order benefit by asking your physician to include up to three (3) 90-day supply refills on your original prescription and by ordering your prescription refills on or after 75% use (26 days for a 34-day supply or 68 days for a 90-day supply). 90-day supplies of drugs subject to quantity limits can be refilled no earlier than 75 days.
How mail-order pharmacy service works
When filling a new mail-order prescription, ask your doctor to write two prescriptions:
- One for a 34-day supply, which you fill at your local, in-network pharmacy
- One for up to a 90-day supply, which you will use for mail order service
When you enroll in the Prescription Drug Plan, you will receive mail-order forms and pre-addressed envelopes with your prescription drug ID card and welcome packet. Use the pre-addressed envelope to mail:
- Your original 90-day prescription
- Your co-pay or co-insurance amount (see Drug Price Check on the MedImpact U-M member site: https://mp.medimpact.com/umh )
- Your completed order form
Mail your order to:
NoviXus Pharmacy Services
P.O. Box 8004
Novi, MI 48376-8004
You can pay by credit card, check, or money order. You will receive your medication within 10 business days from the date you mail your order. This turnaround time applies to prescriptions that do not require additional information or interventions. For an additional charge, expedited shipping methods are available for your convenience. Expedited shipping reduces the shipping time, not the order processing time.
You can view order status information at any time by logging in on the https://umich.novixus.com/ website and clicking on Prescriptions at the top of the screen. To check status by phone, contact NoviXus Patient Care at (877) 269-1160.
