Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP)

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP) is a resource for all active and retired university faculty and staff.  FASAP provides confidential information to individuals with persistent and potentially troublesome personal problems is areas such as alcohol, drugs, marriage, finances, and emotional difficulties.

Recreation Sports Facilities

Retirees may continue to use university recreational facilities by purchasing a membership. The Department of Recreational Sports offers new U-M retirees a one-year complimentary membership if they enroll one month after their official retirement date.

Computing Services

All Retirees

  • Have continued use of their U-M email box by visiting mail.umich.edu, and use the same uniqname, password, and directory entries used as an employee at no charge. A commercial Internet service is required to access email.
  • May purchase a subscription to U-M Online (a fee-based service) that provides a software package for your home computer and includes email, online file storage space, and ITCS login service.  Retired faculty and staff and their spouses or domestic partners may also subscribe to U-M Online. See umonline.umich.edu for more information.
  • Use of the full-service Campus Computing Sites is not available unless a U-M Online subscription is purchased.
  • Purchase of computer hardware and software at the Computer Showcase is not available.

Retired emeritus or emerita faculty

  • Have basic computing package services at no charge through U-M Information Technology Central Services (ITSC).
  • May purchase computer hardware and software at discounted rates through the ITCS Computer Showcase.
  • May use the full-service Campus Computing Sites.

Retiree ID Card

Your U-M Retiree ID card will enable you to take advantage of many of the U-M retiree privileges you had as a staff member, such as athletic ticket discounts and library privileges.  To receive your U-M Retiree ID card, have a Benefits Office counselor verify your retirement on the ID Authorization Form.  Then, take the form and your U-M Staff ID (if you still have it) to any ID Office listed on the form.

Parking

Retirees can obtain a free “After Hours” permit. This can be used in Blue, Yellow and Orange areas after 3:00 p.m. weekdays and throughout the weekend. This free option is honored for evening events such as concerts and theatre performances, but is not valid for athletic events parking. This permit is available in a hang tag version only.  For more information, contact:

U-M Retiree Organizations

  • The University of Michigan Retirees Association (UMRA) is open to all retirees, their spouses, and spouses of deceased retirees.  There is an annual membership fee per household. To join, request a membership application from the UMRA staff office by calling 734-763-7385.

  • The Hospital Employees Retirement Organization (HEROs) is primarily for U-M Health System retirees, their spouses, and spouses of deceased retirees, but is open to all university retirees. Annual dues per household. Contact the U-M Health System Human Resources Department for information.
